Why I Choose Short Term Over Long Term Travel

TillsLovesTravel ·
There was a long held view in my household that short term travel was more economical, sustainable and even more fun than the long term options, and I stand by it. I have watched many friends head off on their year long travel journeys only to return home a little disappointed that their adventure has ended. I have watched a few of them become disheartened by joining the rat race once more. But that isn’t me... I have, like most Brits, opted for the annual holiday to feed my travel thrist.

On-line in the Air: Rules still vary

Just back the other day from a week in Spain, flying both ways on Iberia. Unlike the U.S. carriers that now allow gate-to-gate use of electronics (as long as they're in airplane mode) Iberia very firmly told me to put away my phone and Kindle until the seat-belt light was off—just like the old days! Has anyone else had recent experience with non-U.S. airlines and their policies. I know the EU regulatory authorities have issued rules that are pretty much the same as the FAA's, but apparently...

I've not done this trip, although it's floated up my destinations list and hopefully will be something we can do in a few years. You've an awful lot of travel packed into two weeks, and the only efficient way to do much of it is to rent a car. You can do it by buses and trains, but that would add days to the journey and take away from your valuable travel experiences. So while expensive, a car will help you get the most out of your travel days and with three people won't be prohibitively...

I spoke about it recently in my blog here on Gulangyu Island. Another such splurge was to a restored Chinese merchant's house I saw one day in my library office in a new issue...

Ben Groundwater, a travel writer and columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald's Traveller section reminded me of that with a stunning piece this week, based on personal experience of a...
