A Nice Selection of Greek Pies
The display at the bakery just round the corner from where we are staying. Greek pies - especially the huge variety of different types of pastry - deserve wider international recognition. The pies in the photo had only just come out of the oven.

Yes, I do. The only sweet ones are the Bougatsas with the icing sugar on top. The ones on the left of the top shelf are filled with feta, as are the sesame-covered rings. The two huge ones in between those are filled with cheese and ham. On the left of the bottom shelf are the chicken pies and the middle ones are filled with spinach and feta (Spanakopita). My favourites are the ones on the bottom right: firm, but flaky, pastry filled with a mixture of three different cheeses. And they all are very reasonably priced!

It's a wonderful country. We first went to Greece in 1976 and have been back regularly. However, the 'real' Greece is becoming increasingly difficult to find - too many places now resemble what you might find in the tourist hotspots of Spain or Turkey. Climate change has added another issue: the summers are getting unbearably hot. Even now the temperature is around 40C. 28C to 30C is what you would expect.
