Fine houses in their pristinely manicured gardens. Don't think I could even afford the taxes. I do like the areas that remain untouched by golf and the hand of fortune. I prefer the untouched to the "candy box tin" painting of nature. I've been to many places where the presence of paupers - like myself - detract from the ambiance of opulence. Even today I had a note attached to my car, that parking in a non-designated zone was being selfish. Even though they were full !

Far be it for anyone to say you are selfish, Garry! It is one of the most expensive places to live in California, but I suspect all those drivers going through help subsidize the neighborhood more than that homeowners might want to let on. And I'm not sure most of us could afford the taxes, even if we wanted to. Being an average guy, this is just not my scene.

Cars and bikes are fine, JP, but hogs aren't. The road is good enough so I suspect the home owners (much of the drive is through residential areas) don't want the noise of a big pack of motorcycles passing their gates and fine-trimmed lawns.

Hello everyone DrFumblefinger, you are so right about the chocolate fountain. If it wouldn't have been for my family holding me back, I would've done the dive. Travel Rob and GarryRF, you are so right when you say the food looked too good to eat. I was rather conflicted when it came time to enjoy these delicacies...my stomach said "This is making me so hungry, eat it!!" but my brain said "Don't eat it for these creations are works of art!!" Eventually my stomach won the battle.

Maybe you would get used to the mask? I have no clue how the corrective masks are, maybe if you get one with your prescription it would be better? Or wearing contact lenses? I used to dive with contact lenses before I got my eyes lasered... It is definitely worth it And thank you very much! It's great to see my words here

When two moving Stagecoaches were facing each other on a narrow track the driver would crack the whip - using his right hand - and cause the Horses to shy to the left and away from the noise it made. So they passed each other without hindrance.

On September 3rd, 1967 Dagen H (or “H-Day”), short for Högertrafikomläggningen (“the right-hand traffic diversion”) millions of Swedes switched from driving on the left side of the road to driving on the right. Looks like fun from a distance.

The Swedish experience is fascinating. Here's a link to more details. What makes it especially fascinating is that Sweden had always had cars with the driver and steering on the left, initially American imports, but had driven on the left. I would have expected a surge in minor accidents at the time of the change, but instead, the article says, the accident rate dropped sharply because drivers were now better placed to deal with oncoming traffic!

My indelible memory of the Brooklyn Bridge is watching Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan, being trapped by the police, climbing up the bridge and diving head first into the river to escape. I watched Tarzan religiously as a kid. Today they would have to tell impressionable kids not to try this at home. However, it led me to got our local public pool and learn how to dive off the high diving board which I think has been removed because of insurance costs.

Certainly is beautiful DrF !! Those snow capped mountains scare me off from wanting to dive into the lake. People do apply odd descriptions to wonderful things. My favourite is "It was breath-taking" The number of times I've applied the Heimlich manoeuvre to someone who's been choking on a magnificent vista. Please tell me - are the Canadians addicted to calling everything "Awesome" too ?

In the UK at twilight we get Starlings gathering for a dance just as the sun has set. 60 - 100 thousand gather to perform a spectacular formation dance in many locations.
