Thanks for sharing this story with our audience, Ottoman. I remember Terry Fox well. His run across Canada became an important news story, and the image of him hoping on his good leg before stepping with his prosthesis has always remained with me. This was really a neat travel experience made neater with the old car. We did like Paris and enjoyed our time there. Our 2014 Italian pilgrimage will have us returning through Detroit, which has a nice airport with comfortable amenities. We used Delta skymiles to pay for a portion of the tickets and the returning Paris option was not available. Anything is better than JFK Terminal 2.

Re: Road trip advice: NYC to Chicago
I'd make a loop trip of it, customized to your personal interests. One loop would take me up to the beautiful Niagara peninsula -- see the falls and other sights, perhaps visit your family in Toronto, the dip down through Detroit area to Chicago. On the other loop I'd personally make a point of seeing the Rock n Roll Hall of fame in Cleveland. Do let us know what you decide.
