Located at the Jack Poole Plaza beside the Vancouver Convention Center, the cauldron is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Vancouver Harbour and downtown area as well as the surrounding mountains. After the lighting of the official cauldron in BC Place hockey legend Wayne Gretzky made his way to...

Re: Visiting Western Greenland. Part I – Three Towns
Dr Fumblefinger : Happy to answer questions. Kangerlussuaq is fairly basic by comparison to what we're used to though I love the town and feel at home there now! It's a converted US airbase basically! (Can't browse to my photos from Insert/Edit Image button above?) Accommodation : airport hotel (good standard), campsite (very basic), private accommodation hire options exist though I've not used them in this town - as I'm also part of a wild goose research team, I can stay at the science...

Re: Pictures from a small island - Portland Bill
Well that was 'only' 35 mph (Beaufort force 7 or 30 knots) but I was starting to feel pretty exposed! I think my toupé blew off and not just my hat!! The wind is predicted to edge up higher (Force 8) tomorrow around mid day so I might taken another look . At "the Bill" where the lighthouse is, one is close to sea level but 3 miles further back the island rises to nearly 500 feet and thus it wonderfully protects Portland harbour (below) and nearby Weymouth.

Re: The Vancouver Lookout Tower at Harbour Centre
As many times as I've visited Vancouver, I've never been to the top of this tower. Will have to make a point of doing so when I'm next there on a clear day. Vancouver is perhaps the most beautiful city in the world (I know, many places are), but the setting is absolutely magnificent. Sadly, it's been overpopulated and is now one of the most expensive cities in North America. But it still is lovely, as your blog so clearly shows. Thanks, Samantha!

Re: The Vancouver Lookout Tower at Harbour Centre
So glad that you and Gene had a good time. Vancouver is a beautiful city but as the good Doctor mentioned it has become overpopulated and expensive. Looks like you had some very nice weather though. Dining in the tower is a great way to enjoy the view. The last time I did that was in the early 80s. Happy belated Anniversary as well.
