Re: Diamond Head State Monument, Oahu (Where Gumbo Was #230)
On my last visit to Diamond Head we left near to the closing time. A large Limousine was waiting to take us back to Waikiki. I hadn't ordered one but the driver insisted we used him to take us back. "I will charge you the same as the Taxi fare you paid to get here" Sounded like an offer too good to refuse ! Before we arrived back in Waikiki another 4 couples had joined our Taxi ride. Had to admire the driver for ingenuity. Very good earner !

Re: Spring Time on Table Mountain
I have spent whole days hiking Table Mountain and haven't even covered half of it. The top of the mountain is divided by the single two lane road that cuts up and over it. This day was spent on the West side of the divide. I couldn't find any information on the square mileage, but as a rough estimate I would say "huge". There are also caves, which I have never found, but then again I have never found Phantom Falls, either. Just North of this spot there is a "ghost town" called Cherokee.

Re: Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Waikiki (Where Gumbo was #148)
I agreed to walk across the crater of Diamond Head after receiving 100% assurances that it was extinct. That's it in the background of the last photos ! If you'd sneaked in a photo of the Motel6 I would have moved further across the Pacific. Very colonial style and they still use the Union Jack on their flag. Deeply ashamed of my lack of observation.

Re: Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Waikiki (Where Gumbo was #148)
Garry -- Diamond Head has been dormant for thousands of years, so it's quite safe. It's actually a great hike to go to the rim of Diamond Head from the crater floor, with beautiful views of Honolulu and much of Oahu. Don't believe there's a Motel6 there, but there are budget accommodations available for those looking for them. But nothing in Hawaii is "cheap" because of the cost of shipping everything there and relatively high cost of labor. Thanks for playing along!
