Re: World's scariest hiking trail?
It reminds me of the pictures I've seen of that ridge just below the summit of Everest, without the snow, but equally terrifying and as unlikely you'll find me there in this lifetime. Dr. Y, may I request you scatter my ashes from that location?

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, November 25, 2014: Fall colors at Upper Kananaskis Lake, Alberta
Hi GarryRF, Yes, this part of the world includes vaste stretches of wilderness. Lots and lots of unspoiled mountains, valleys, forests, rivers and lakes. It is only an hour's drive from west Calgary, so lots of those of us who live here spend our weekends in the Rockies. Much like those in Denver. Camping is wonderful in the summertime, as the weather is mild and the days very long. It's also great to hike here at that time. Camping in the winter is only for the brave of heart. You need to...

Re: January 31, 2017: Ye Olde Chip Truck, Kenora, Ontario
It's great to see real chips and vinegar making a comeback ! I often get folks in the US teasing me over the way we used to say Ye old shop. Just to put the record straight - and I'm sorry to disappoint so many - we never did. When the Guttenberg Printing Press arrived in England from Germany in 1440 there was no Greek letter "THETA" pronounced "th", so the nearest Look-alike letter was a Gothic "Y". So that soon replaced Theta in the printed word. But always pronounced The.

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, July 22, 2014: Columbia Icefields, Alberta
Great photos Dr Y. Is this an all year tourist resort or would I freeze to death in winter ? I presume this remains sub zero all year due to its elevation. Does it contain any wildlife ? Is it receding with warmer weather ? We see pictures of areas where glacier ice is disappearing but there are areas we don't see where it's on the increase. I remember being taught about shifting ice regions in the 1950's and all this alarmist talk today seems to be just a continuation of normality.

Re: ZHANGJIAJIE Visit
Hi Tahir, If you are not a local, join a guided tour is the easier way of visiting. There are many choices of packages from abroad or from the Zangjiajie, depending on how many sites you would like to visit, as well as hotel, meal and transportation selection. At least three days are needed to visit the area. "C-trip" is a very popular and reliable web site to book the China trip, I have done few times. Enjoy and have fun. Dr. Y
