Verona was definitely a highlight of our 2012 pilgrimage to the "old country." The city was modern and old at the same time. People watching in the Piazza Bra was like having a peak into the living room of the Veronese. It seems like a place on a secondary travel network: like a place to go after you've seen the "big 3." This trip was a return after not stopping here since 1982 and we were very pleased. The sites were interesting, the people were friendly, and the gelato was first-rate.

I think updates of this picture should be a recurring reminder of the seasons. Add coats to the chair, take them away. Add hot beverages, change to cold. And in fits of summer euphoria, add bathing suits, take them away... I'll be watching!

I think we'd all accept a re-creation then, Backyard Beach Babylon. A truckload of sand, a backdrop, stuffed birds that could change with the seasons to simulate migration for more interest. Your fans await. Or, your fan awaits?

Thanks for the comment, PHeymont. Yes, it did seem thinks were working at warp speed in the 1960s, slowed down after that and have mostly come to a halt now. But there are still the great unmanned probes being launched (eg. Mars Rover), and the new Orion project promises to be quite exciting -- at least in its potential. It might be what takes man to Mars. I'd be happy just for a return to the moon. See how modern technology has changed the process of getting there.

I will be there about a month, from February 12 to March 12. I will be in Madrid for a few days after I arrive and then off to Girona and environs for a few weeks. I may wander into southeast France for a few days as well before I return to Madrid for a couple of days before I fly out.

It`s a great story, PortMoresby! The kind of adventure that would appeal to me. A week of walking sounds just about right. And my knees are telling me to stop going into the mountains and seek flatter ground! I`m curious how you arranged the transportation of your gear as you were walking from one place to the next. Did you carry it all, or did you return to the same base every night? And, I hope, there was some cheese to go with that wonderful looking wine!

PM - there was a significant upgrade in their 'viewable' house contents and access to more rooms that was only opened as of March 2014 - so, yes, you should return as it is very much better than I recall from my previous visit many years ago.

To see the most remote and probably the most beautiful parts of NI you need to have a car. It's best to rent locally as a Ferry from Britain, and return, is quite expensive. If you just want a "Flying visit" to Belfast or Dublin you can catch a plane from Liverpool to either city for a bargain. Maybe stay a few nights in Ireland.

Excellent photos of a tradition I knew nothing about ! It's in events like weddings that we see how much our customs vary. In the UK there's an outcry - when a family of Asian origin return from vacation with their 13 year old daughter married to an older man. And legally not acceptable. I remember when I was kid, hearing stories of how English fathers were keen to get their daughters married off too. Tales from around 1900 I suppose!
