Re: Iran: Friendliness, Culture, Modernity - So Far Away From The Clichés!
That's a fascinating look at a country rarely visited by people in North America. I especially enjoyed your lovely photos, which share so vividly the experience with all of us. I have two specific questions: 1) What is the tourist infrastructure in Iran like? Easy to find hotels or hostels? Restaurants? Public transit? 2) I've always enjoyed those Iranian people I know, but I'm not sure if the bulk of our readers (Mostly from the USA and Canada) would receive the same welcome from the...

Hello Dr. Fumblefinger, Thank you for your Feedback! To answer your questions: 1) The infrastructure is good to very good, and it is extremely easy to travel within Iran: there are lots of buses and excellent trains, there is a wide range of hotels, from simple guesthouses to world-class 5 stars hotels, restaurants going from street food stalls to fine dining, ... Air France returns to Tehran in April
Air France will re-open its historic Paris-Tehran route in April with a 3-times-a-week round trip, starting in April. The move is part of the resumption of trade with Iran, possible because of the lifting of sanctions as part of the multi-nation nuclear limits treaty with Iran. Air France previously flew the route from 1946 until 2008, which it was ended as part of the UN and EU sanctions against Iran. The EU is already Iran's fourth-biggest economic partner, and trade is expected to grow.

I think potential European travelers to Iran now have to consider the likelihood of those traveling to Iran not being able to use the US's Visa Waiver Program when traveling to the States. The Reform Bill passed the House and the Administration supports it. It most likely will pass the Senate and be signed into law by the President. https://www.travelgumbo.com/blo...-free-travel-program

Re: Airbus deal with Iran worth $27 billion
Iran is also buying some turboprops, from ATR, which is jointly owned by Airbus and an Italian company. The deal includes 20 firm orders and 20 optionals, but didn't specify the cost, or the possible mix of ATR42 (45-seat) and ATR72 (70-seat) models.

Sadly, I don't think there is any prospect of 'tourism picking up dramatically' in the foreseeable future. The news coming out of Iran just keeps on getting worse.
