Gumbo's Pic of the Day, January 26, 2015: Breakfast on the Okavango Delta

Breakfast on the Okavango Delta. Our guide and driver are our chefs!

Wildlife safaris are generally conducted at dawn and dusk, when animals are most active and your chance of seeing them is optimized.  During the heat of day most animals go into the bush and rest.

Scrambled eggs on the delta

(scrambled eggs anyone?)

For morning safaris you usually get up when it's dark, dress quickly, grab a cup of hot tea or coffee and a biscuit, and head out for 2-3 hours, returning later for breakfast and a few hours of leisure time.  One morning our guide and driver surprised us.  Instead of returning us to the lodge, they stopped on an open part of the delta, put on these aprons and hats, set up a table, stove and started cooking us a hot breakfast.

It was one of the most memorable morning meals I've ever had.  Tasty, warm food while sitting in the middle of beautiful scenic Africa.  How can one go wrong?

Miss you!

So nice to hear from you, "Ducky"!  It was a special trip.  You likely recognize the Oscar in one of the photos, digging in.  Miss you and the gang in Spokane as well, but life in Calgary is nice and the nearby Rockies incredible!
