I was surprised to see that Buddhist bibles are placed in the bedside draw. Just like a Gideon's bible. Really is an amazing read ! Full of proverbs like : "A man who commits adultery likes licking jam off a sharp knife !"

Lovely photos and blog Karl. Refreshed my delightful memories of our visit there. One other word of advice for the end of your tour is to visit the Massage School which is in the temple complex and have a relaxing and rejuvenating massage - feet or more depending on time available.

It's an amazing place, Mac. I've visited it four times and would go back the next time as well. Your photos do it great justice. They only thing they don't capture is the heat and humidity!

Well thank you, esteemed Gurus! It is just SO photogenic and almost surreal in its beauty and exotic creatures. A continual "trip" to experience. And how do you ever truly capture the "essence" of the temple.... Just keep trying I guess....

Sept. 6, 2016: Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Marilyn Jones ·
Sunrise is an hour away as I make my way along the wide pathway to Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world located just north of Siem Reap. I am joined by 15 other Exodus Travels tourists and our guide Vanney. On the edge of a reflecting pool hundreds of other visitors jockey for position to get the best photo of the sun rising over the temple. Angkor Wat was built in the first half of the 12 th century. Estimated construction time is 30 years. Built by King Suryavarman II...

We travelers are very familiar with all of the great travel sights around the world and certainly the magnificent Angkor Wat temple is amongst the very best known. However, perhaps less appreciated is that this much photographed and visited Angkor Wat temple is only one temple (albeit the best!) in the vast Angkor Temple Complex.

Amongst the most magnificent sights in Bangkok is the Wat Phra Kaew temple, or the Temple of the Jade Buddha. It is a riot of gilded and colorful figures in a very concentrated area within the grounds of the King's Grand Palace in Bangkok.
