Re: Boston in the fall - suggestions please!
Glad you're traveling again, Mac. Boston is my home town, and October is THE BEST MONTH. Where are you staying in the city? I'd walk the Freedom Trail if you're feeling up to it. Go down to the waterfront. Boston Common and Charles Street are fun places to hang out. Newbury Street is fancy shopping and also has a few fun bistros and coffee shops. The Science Museum is excellent. Plenty of seafood to be had. New England clam chowder is great if you have sweater-weather. Go whale-watching...

Yes DrF.... Those Ozzies have some strange habits ! First time in Coogee Bay Hotel Sydney I ordered Steak and Chips (Fries) Guy showed me a Tupperware Picnic Box full of raw steak. You choose, then he puts it on a plate for you. You take it outside to the "Barbee" (BBQ). You cook it how you like it. Then come back in for your Chips and salad ! I stopped at a Restaurant in Bondi Beach and the waiter asked me if I would like a bottle of wine with the meal. "Yes please" I said. "Well git ya...

Sprinkles (also known as Jimmies) may belong on certain glazed donuts and certainly are part of ice-cream rituals. But on the croissant (glazed!) certainly not. It would be like putting chocolate syrup on a steak. Or, for that matter, a sauce meant for steak on your ice cream.

I know just how she felt. You cut into your steak, you're anticipating that wonderful first taste of a succulent piece of beef. Then as you slowly take it into your mouth the waiter appears ! "How's your steak Sir ?" Nom nom , choke, nom nom. "its fine dank you" cough..... When you really want to raise your arms and chase him into the car park - because you know its something waiters do for fun ! Love the Photos too !!

Lovely photos, SCP, thanks! White Rock is a great day-trip destination from Vancouver, even Seattle. A charming place just north of the 49th parallel, it's a wonderful place to go for a walk by the sea or to get some fresh seafood. Walking out to the end of the pier and looking back at the mainland is a memorable moment.

One of the most memorable places I ever ate at was a small taco joint in La Paz, Mexico. Sorry, but I don't remember its name. I was on a guided whale watching/kayaking trip and would NEVER have gone in except for our guide saying it was safe to do so. The outside was dingy, dirty, poorly kept -- signals for dysentery if I'd ever seen them (but apparently expected -- make it nice and the vandals will deface it). The inside was clean and simple, but the food was absolutely outstanding!

Definitely visit the Mont St. Michel (island) after the tour buses leave. So a great time to head out to the island is mid afternoon (ie. get there by mid afternoon, don't leave Bayeux at that time). By the time you get to the old island itself the crowds will be thinning. It's a bit of a climb up to the monastery, but the views are incredible as the great history and beauty of the place. Just be sure you don't delay visiting the monastery too long (believe it closes at 6 pm but double check...
