Re: Notes and Noticings from the road
Actually, I think the banks have a fairly minimal (as small as I can make it) impact on my currency transactions, in part because I never deal with exchanges; I use bank ATMs. That way, the exchange takes place not on my account, but as an interbank transaction at the base rate banks use with each other. I used to use my ATM card from Citibank, but eventually they began charging a 3% foreign exchange fee even on withdrawals. At that point, I opened an account with Charles Schwab, a brokerage...

Re: Aug 4. 2016: Delaware City. Delaware.
I agree with Garry. Exploring small town America is tops! I love a few days in the big cities but feel at home in its small towns. Have yet to visit Delaware City but will check it out next time I'm in that part of the country. Imagine they have good crab?

Re: Aug 4. 2016: Delaware City. Delaware.
Delaware City has only one set of traffic lights - how's that for small ! I only get crab when visiting the family in the US. Not here in the UK. I've had crab from Delaware - Chesapeake - Rehoboth Beach (Hooters) down to Ocean City Maryland. All gorgeous and worth waiting for. I've learned to say "These are the best ever" because that's what the locals say. Best Pizza - Best Crab-cakes - Best Chilli Fries. When my son was working his way through University he worked the late shift in a...

Re: Airport trend: More local restaurants
I enjoy trying these local restaurants in airports, especially when there's time between flights. It's one of the best developments of the airlines no longer offering meals.

Re: Lambertville, New Jersey (Where Gumbo Was #345)
I took a Google street tour of the town. Beautiful architecture and streets lined with quaint antique and craft store frontages plus cafes. However, the streets are also congested with above ground telephone / power poles and thick hanging cables that really detracts from the towns beauty.

Vintage railroad rides are great, especially with the old time dining cars using real linens and excellent fare. Not to forget the lounge cars with a full bar and card tables !
