Re: Baseball Hall of Fame - Cooperstown, New York

Travel Rob ·
Thanks Samantha, I'd love to visit Cooperstown. When I saw Hank Aaron's boyhood home at Mobile's minor league stadium with all it's incredible baseball memorabilia, I knew I had to see the Baseball Hall of Fame one day. Thanks for showing me what to expect!

Hi Rob, it is a really cool place to visit. I had been to the Negro Hall of Fame in Kansas, but not the one in Cooperstown. It was so worth the wait! Thanks for mentioning Aaron's home in Mobile. I would like to see it someday too. Have a great weekend

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Nov 2, 2013: BootHill Graveyard, Tombstone, Arizona

Mac ·
Ah great memories Dr. F! We had the pleasure of strolling round Boot Hill and then shaking hands with both Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp themselves! (Well, they were the real one's weren't they?). The tomb stones, or grave markers, in Boot Hill make great reading. Quite a number referring to folks being "legally hanged" (did that make any difference to the end result?). I particularly liked the tomb 'stone' (board) saying: "Here lies George Johnson, hanged by mistake 1882. He was right, we was...

Re: UK may OK Scotland-Ireland tunnel

Professorabe ·
The cynics here - me included - see this whole thing merely as a ploy to divert attention from the many failings of Johnson and his government. The cost estimates reported in the UK media, incidentally, are much higher than the $2.8 billion quoted above - a minimum of £10 billion is suggested. I like the comment of one Conservative MP who suggested that the trains going through the tunnel "could be pulled by an inexhaustible herd of unicorns overseen by stern, officious dodos”.
