Beautiful, and a wonderful story to go with it. We have a lilac in our back yard . . . waiting for it to bloom.

Thanks for the kind comment! And welcome to TravelGumbo. Needlessly said, I also have lilacs in my yard and enjoy watching them come to life each spring. Their perfume is, perhaps second only to jasmine, my favorite floral scent.

Looks like a good idea for a cold winters day. A gallop in the snow. Just hope there's no frozen ponds underneath. Great scenery you have - enjoy it while it lasts !

Thanks for the note, Garry! They do love a run in the snow, and no ponds underneath to worry about -- just the rare gopher hole which is just as bad! Scenery should last. Properties around us are all privately and people want to keep their trees.

I am indeed a lucky man, Garry RF! The beasts are my wife's, but she's that lovely lady leading them out for their stroll. So lucky indeed! Married over 30 years and never regretted it.

Thanks for your comment Professor. Having had a desk job all my life, it was nice to work out of doors. The housing market is booming in our area and it's all but impossible to find contractors for jobs like this, so it fell on me to do it. But never again.

Does not sound like a fun job (a bit of a nightmare, actually) - but, from what you say, you probably don't have to do it ever again! In any case, it appears like you've done a good job ... and the property looks lovely.

"White Christmas" is one of those classic tunes that I can't imagine anyone doing a better job at performing than Bing. I am curious. Do you play vinyl records (45 or 33 1/3 rpm), CDs, or just downloaded digital files?

Lilacs have always had special meaning for me. I was born in the late spring and my birthday coincides with the lilac blooming season. Besides making me a birthday cake as a child each year, I recall my mom cutting a lovely bouquet of lilacs for me!
