Signs of Jackson, Wyoming

Jackson -- sometimes called 'Jackson Hole' after the valley in which it resides -- is a fun town to visit.  It's situated in northwestern Wyoming, one of the most beautiful regions in the world.  With the growth of tourism in the area the town has morphed from its cowboy and ranching roots to an upscale resort.  But it's not gone Hollywood -- there's still a lot of "country soul" around.  Jackson's population is just under 10,000, not counting the surrounding ranchers and the many tourists that visit.

The popularity and quality of alpine skiing and the nearby location of the National Elk Refuge and Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks have made this town a travel destination both in summer and winter.  The town sits at 6,237 feet (1901 meters) above sea level and is pretty far north, so winters are cold but summers are warm and beautiful.

I'll have a little more to share about Jackson in the near future, but would like to introduce it to you through the various signs I spotted while wandering the town.  An unusual blend even to someone who enjoys studying signs during my travels.

Very entertaining DrF . I enjoyed looking around another smalltown USA.

I presume it's still a working City with 10,000 people living there.

Looks like a setting for "Blazing Saddles" - with less horses !

Did you know the Town "Sheriff" got his name from the "Shire Reef" - the Reef being a medieval name for a law enforcement officer of the English King. They had Town Reefs before that.

But the Shire Reef of Nottingham got a horse with flashing hooves thrown in with the job. Bit like a company car.

And a sword too !
