The UK Company was bought out by a Dubai investment group after running up big debts. So its trying to catch up with the quality of other UK Budget Hotels to survive.

It's a great image, Islandman! I really enjoy photos of people going about their every day lives in different locations about the world, a reminder to me how much more alike we all are than different. This photo is made more interesting by their obviously ethnic diversity -- people who have come to Dubai for a good job and to improve their lot in life. The contrast of the old wooden taxi and modern skyscrapers in the background is great!

Nice enough - but, in my opinion, a bazaar or souk needs the ramshackle element to be exciting. These places are far too tidy for my liking. They simply cannot match the atmosphere of the old markets in, say, Istanbul, Marrakesh, or Fez. Below is a shot of Istanbul's Grand Bazaar, a huge labyrinth of narrow lanes and passages.

Generally agreed, especially if you're really wanting to buy something. But when the temperatures is over 40C outside, and you're looking for a cool place to escape to, then this is a reasonable option. The canal system did make it more interesting than most malls.

Having just flown Emirates from Dubai to Colombo and back, and having gone through security at DXB several times, I have these observations to share: 1) Emirates offers among the finest service of any airline in the world. And at a very good price. If it was a convenient option, I wouldn't hesitate to fly Emirates again. The only other airlines in my experience with a similar level of service are Singapore and Thai.
