Great report, Jonathan! I guess I live a sheltered life in the west, because I'd never even heard of this train route before. It intrigues me. Something to include on a snowbird journey to Florida someday.

Great fun! More and more this sounds like my "speed" of travel as well. I'm fond of road trips, and usually go that route, but need to check into some train travel options.

I've resisted the lure of those long trips for years, even though I've been a rail buff from childhood...but with a push from my wife, we're about to do our first...and thanks to you for showing us the way!

These train routes are popular because they make travel sense to consumers. That's why they're successful, and I'm all for improving these routes to provide even better customer service. Much of the Americas is too sparsely populated for train travel to be a viable option for most, and it generally is much less consumer friendly than driving, especially over a short distance.

Thanks for the pointers! Since I'm about 6 weeks away from my first U.S. sleeper, I'm both excited...and a little worried about the 15" space...we'll see...maybe I should practice by sleeping UNDER my bed for a couple of days!
