Amtrak Expands its Pets on a Train Pilot Program

Amtrak expands its pets on a train pilot program that began last year in Illinois. Now for a $25 fee (one way), passengers traveling between Boston, New York, Washington, and Virginia on the Northeast Regional line and between Boston and Brunswick, Maine, on the Downeaster line can bring one small dog or cat in a carrier (20 pounds max, including carrier). Reservations are first-come, first-served with a few other restrictions.

The pilot program ends Feb. 15 and Amtrak will decide then if they will continue with the program.
