Re: July 29, 2016: Still Life with Remnants
Like the photo, PHeymont, but am surprised to see cigarette butts in a cafe photo from Europe. Is this one from the archives.

Re: July 29, 2016: Still Life with Remnants
This is from summer of 2013. The disappearance of public smoking in Europe is slow and uneven; when the picture was taken, it was still allowed on the open terrace of the cafe. This summer, in England, I was surprised to note how much it persists there.

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Dec. 29, 2013: Porto's Sandwich Obsession
I think PHeymont and DrFumblefinger are in cahoots today. The sandwich is made from the subject of "Where in the World". See the resemblence? Just picture it with sauce & frites.

The seemingly unstoppable expansion of NYU, like that of Columbia uptown, has changed the character of the area profoundly.

A Walk in Greenwich Village
I had the chance to walk around Greenwich Village (see map) for the first time in several years. I know that this is going to sound like a "grandpa is complaining about change again" blog, but I was really disappointed in what I found....

It's in a museum, but is it art? Not intentionally; it was left behind by a cafe customer and cleared shortly after PHeymont found himself drawn to the image.

A Bridge to Everywhere
Every place we travel has its landmarks, and for nearly every city on a significant river, at least some of those landmarks turn out to be bridges.
