Re: Frankfurt: Not Just for Business
I liked your description of the Rubens exhibit that tied together his inspirational objects and sketches. Adds so much more to an art exhibit instead of just hanging a painting with the title. I also fell into the trap of not visiting Frankfurt when I only lived about 20 miles away for about six years. I did really enjoy the Frankfurt Zoo and their Christmas Market.

Excellent piece of History and Interest on Portland. Maine. Perhaps when I've finished my exploration of Smalltown USA I'll add the Big Little Cities to my list. Portland looks so familiar. Is it close to Cabot Cove ?

It's about 30 miles north of Cabot's Cove, which is near Wells, Maine. Which is at one end of the excellent Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, which combines forest and shore habitats and makes a wonderful walk. It was featured in a couple of Pictures of the Day, and was the scene, back in 2013, of Where in the World is TravelGumbo #5

Lovely photos! I haven't been to Portland since I was a little kid on summer vacations...we often combined Portland, Old Orchard Beach and Kennebunkport. Maine looks just as pretty as I remember.

I think updates of this picture should be a recurring reminder of the seasons. Add coats to the chair, take them away. Add hot beverages, change to cold. And in fits of summer euphoria, add bathing suits, take them away... I'll be watching!

Acadia is one of the few "main" US National Parks I've yet to visit. A serious gap in my travel map.... Having just spent a large number of hours on an Air Canada flight to and from South America, I found it interesting to read the claim that Acadia sees the first USA Sunrise. The ads on the AirCanada video screens from Newfoundland made it very clear that if you want to see the first sunrise in North America, you need to go there instead. That is something I hope to do soon as well.

Hi Ava : ) You are going to love Krakow. The locals are very friendly, the scenery is beautiful, and the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Enjoy your visit. I hope you share your adventures (along with pictures) with TravelGumbo upon your return...I (and our entire TravelGumbo family) would love to see them. By the way, if you have time, take a day to visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine, and another day to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration/Extermination camps. Your best bet to see...

The Salt Mines are one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. It would be a shame to miss seeing them. When you are in town you will see this building. It's the Rail Station. The salt mines are just a few stops along the line. 10 minutes. So easy to find. So worth it.

In the main square, school children perform dances and theatre for passers by. Adults perform parades and fashion shows. During the summer when I was a visitor there was something on display most afternoons. Krakow is a beautiful city to walk around.

Thanks guys. I loved all of New York, but this was very special. The ceilings reminded me of the ceilings you see in Europe. Sadly some people probably don't notice unless someone points it out Like I said in the post, it was the only time I felt like I was able to relax, breathe, and take in my surroundings.
