On a recent trip to Maine, my husband Gene and I spent some time near Kittery, Maine and came across the Whaleback Lighthouse. It is located at the mouth of the Piscataqua River on a rocky outcrop offshore southwest of Fort Foster and south of Wood Island in Kittery.
The light was first established in 1830, is 59 feet above mean sea level. The tower, also housed the keeper's living quarters and a storage area. It was a nice surprise to stumble upon. We enjoyed walking around a taking a few pictures.
