Virgin's cruises will be 'adults-only'

Virgin Voyages (the company doesn't like 'cruises') has announced that its first ship, due to sail in 2020, will be adults-only, although it may have family-friendly cruises sometime in the future.

The new line, launched by Virgin mogul Richard Branson, is trying its best to be different in any way it can, and its focus on as-yet childless millennials is only part of it. The ship's design, based on yacht themes, looks quite different from other cruise ships.

The announcement came at the keel-laying for the ship, which has yet to get a name, with Branson, company officials and Boy George on hand.

Among the other features of the 2800-passenger ship are terraces (Virgin doesn't like balconies) on 86% of the cabins, and ocean view for 93%, and technology to limit the ship's carbon footprint. Two more ships are on order, for 2021 and 2022.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
