The Museum of Puppetry, Ljubljana

One of the highlights of our visit to Ljubljana Castle was seeing one of its newer museums, the Museum of Puppetry, which opened in 2015.

I've had minimal exposure to puppetry in my life, so I enjoyed seeing the many displays, a lot of which were cleverly presented.

Puppetry has been a traditional art form in Slovenia for more than 100 years.  The museum highlights some of the nation's favorite puppet characters and puppeteers.  The museum also highlights puppetry techniques and, if you are interested, you can try your hand at puppetry.  Puppetry performances are regularly scheduled at the Museum, especially appealing to locals.

The museum works in collaboration with the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, a group carrying on the tradition of puppetry in Slovenia.  The Museum owns around 6000 artefacts (set designs, drawings, posters, etc.), including more than 3000 puppets.

Below are more of the displays from our visit....
