Surprise! Naples Best Pizza Invades Rome

Naples' famed Antica Pizzeria da Michele has surprised Rome and pizza eaters everywhere with a surprise announcement it will open a restaurant in the capital in two weeks.

The 140-year-old restaurant, considered by many to be the best pizzeria in the world, was famous even before Julia Roberts are there in a central scene in the movie Eat, Pray, Love. It's especially a surprise, because attention has been focused on a branch about to open in London, and no mention had been made of a first branch in Italy.

The place has been run by the same family since the beginning. When two branches were opened in Asia in recent years, family members went along to run them. That's also true for the London branch, and the Rome outpost will be the same, along with four cooks from the Naples restaurant.

Unlike London, where additional toppings will be available, in Rome only the two original and famous versions will be available: margherita and marinara. Its location, Via Flaminia 80, is near the Piazza del Popolo.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
