Star Wars uses The Force on Airlines

This is the weekend that no one can escape news about Star Wars; it's all the media, social and otherwise—and TravelGumbo is no exception.

Since we're a travel site, that's the focus of our round-up. Last month we reported on Air France's plan to premiere the new movie, The Force Awakens on Paris trans-Atlantic flights Thursday night, just as the film was opening in major cities. The special trip with the tiny-screen film included tickets to a giant-screen showing in Paris the next day.

For those who may have missed the first six films (or just want to re-live the past decades since the first one came out in 1977), Emirates is showing all six on flights next month. An Emirates VP pointed out that with a total run time of over 13 hours, passengers on some of the airline's longer flights, say New York to Dubai, could watch all 6 in a row. Is there popcorn?

And All-Nippon Airways, whose three Star Wars-themed 787 Dreamliners top this column, got in its shot at the publicity bonanza by flying the film cast from Tokyo to London on the R2-D2-painted one (That's the one in the middle, in case you didn't guess.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
