Portugal's 'Golden Visa' Gaining Traction

If one buys a home or apartment for at least 500,000 Euros and holds it for 5 years, investors will receive a Portuguese residence permit. Rich Chinese business people are doing just that.

"Only obliged to spend seven days per year in Portugal, the holders of these residence permits may travel and work throughout Europe without a visa within the Schengen area of countries."

The U.S. has a somewhat similar program. If you are prepared to invest $1,000,000 in a U.S. business that will create 10 jobs ($500,000 if it's in a rural or high unemployment area) you and your immediate family are eligible for immediate green cards for permanent residence. Oh, sorry...it is limited to the first 10,000 millionaires each year.
