Visitors to Malmo's newest museum, set to open later this month, can count on a stomach-churning experience as they view the exhibits—and that's what the museum's founders have in mind.
The Museum of Disgusting food will display 80 of the world's most disturbing dishes at the Slagthuset MMX, just behind Malmo's Central Station. Choices include a raw bull's penis on a cutting board, maggot cheese from Sardinia, and roasted guinea pig from Peru, rotten shark from Iceland, a reeking Durian fruit from Southeast Asia and more.
Dr. Samuel West, an American is the brain behind the attack on the stomach. He told TheLocal.se that "The main aim is that it is fun, interesting, and interactive," West told The Local. "You can taste, smell, and in certain cases, even touch the food." West has a serious point behind the plan: "We need to question our ideas of disgust if we're going to consider some of the more environmentally friendly sources of protein, like insects."

In the case of Swedish fermented herring, "We tested it, and tested it and were almost kicked out of our current office space because of the smell. I think we've got it solved, but I'm not sure.
