I've previously described how I like to use the Roadfood.com website when I travel (see this link). Briefly, the site features great "mom and pop" places that make a variety of delicious American food.

While recently in San Luis Obispo, we stopped at the Roadfood.com recommended High Street Market and Deli. The deli has been around for almost a century and was said to make the best sandwiches in this city.
We arrived for lunch and the place was busy, the line stretching out the door. The deli is a quaint old-fashioned place with an interesting variety of sandwiches. Each person fills out a order card detailing which sandwich they want -- type of bread, cheese, meat, toppings, etc. Tables are all located outside and we were able to snag one while we waited for our sandwiches to be crafted,

The sandwiches were definitely worth waiting for. Fresh, tasty and very filling. I had the "Dutch Punch", a club combo of turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato served on a "Dutch crunch” roll. It was delicious but didn't photograph well. But my daughter-in-law's vegetarian sandwich was more photogenic, and I'm told was "fantastic"!
