Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Oct. 27: Paris's Stravinsky Fountain

1-PP1000184The Stravinsky Fountain, its figures inspired by Stravinsky’s music (and especially the Rites of Spring), is one of my favorite places in Paris to sit and watch people, especially children. It’s sandwiched into a plaza between the Pompidou Center (Beaubourg), the Recording Institute and the Church of St. Merri, one of Paris’s oldest. It was designed by Jean Tinguely (who did the darker mechanical figures) and his wife, Niki de Saint Phalle.

Children love it, but it’s also popular with adults visiting the Pompidou and other nearby museums and attractions. And at night, it takes on an entirely different feel, visible in the pictures below.
