I enjoy visiting local markets on my travels and do so often. One of the most unique I've ever visited was this market in Iquitos. A poor city in the Peruvian Amazon, it had an amazing assortment of food (and other items) for sale. Bananas and produce were readily available, of course, as was a surprisingly variety of fish from the Amazon River. But also local remedies and medicines, and wild animals -- toucans, parrots, monkeys, turtles -- even some snakes.
An experience I'll never forget.
