Gumbo's Pic of the Day, February 7, 2015: A Market in Iquitos

I enjoy visiting local markets on my travels and do so often.  One of the most unique I've ever visited was this market in Iquitos.  A poor city in the Peruvian Amazon, it had an amazing assortment of food (and other items) for sale.  Bananas and produce were readily available, of course, as was a surprisingly variety of fish from the Amazon River.  But also local remedies and medicines, and wild animals -- toucans, parrots, monkeys, turtles -- even some snakes.

An experience I'll never forget.

Thank you, Marilyn!  The kid sort of adopted us as his parents for a day and tagged along where ever we went.  Never obnoxious, never asking for anything, not speaking too much at all.  But he did let me take that photo with him in it.
