Germany: Ice cream for the uncertain

Ever gotten to the front of the line at your favorite ice cream shop and, faced with dozens of choices, stood there saying, 'Ummmm....' ? A German ice cream shop has seen it so many times its created a flavor called, essentially, 'Ummm.'

A mix of white chocolate milk ice cream mixed with pistachio crunch, it's labeled the German equivalent of the hesitant sound: 'Ähm.' Alessandro Cimino, who owns Rimini Ice Cream in Gaggenau, near Stuttgart, says that the mix "looks like iceberg lettuce."

Despite the appearance, it's become the shop's best-selling flavor. Although it was intended as a short-term specialty and to get some publicity, it has now earned a permanent place on the shop's menu.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
