Forget self-driving cars—here's an autonomous suitcase

There have been a lot of stories recently about apps that help you track your luggage, but at least one manufacturer is close to market with a suitcase that tracks you as you move through the airport.

Powered by small electric motors that charge from an outlet and hold an hour or so per charge, the bag, from NUA Robotics, can move at about 5 km/h but may speed up in the future. Its electronics track you or your smartphone as you move. When you check it in, it can still send you location data—as long as the battery lasts.

NUA expects to have the system, which weighs about 1 kg more than ordinary suitcases, in stores by next Christmas season. They're not the first with self-powered suitcases, but possibly the first that doesn't need you to guide it.
