It's been a good year for the Boeing company. Its planes continue to be popular with airlines and consumers, and production is going gangbusters.
Boeing completed and delivered 762 jetliners in 2015 -- averaging more than 2 completed aircraft a day -- slightly exceeding its target of 755 to 760 planes. This includes thirty-four 787 Dreamliners and 120 of its 737s in the 4th quarter alone. And it booked new firm orders of 768 jetliners last year, worth $112.4 billion, in line with its forecast that orders and deliveries would be about the same. The company currently has a year-end backlog of 5,795 jets.
It was also a good year for Airbus. Airbus reported sales of 1007 aircraft through November 2015, although delivered only 629 jetliners in 2014 (2015 data has not yet been released but is expected to be slightly better than 2014).
Boeing built its first 737 MAX plane, due to undergo flight testing this year. The Dreamliner output suggests Boeing was producing this aircraft faster rate than the target of 10 a month, to be increased to 12 a month this year.
