Every year from about mid-November to mid-January there’s a migration of hundreds of bald eagles to Lake Coeur d’Alene. These birds fly in from northern Idaho, Montana and the Canadian Rockies, joining the bald eagles who reside by the lake. The eagles have come to feast on land-locked kokanee salmon which are swimming into the lake's bays and creeks to spawn, after which they die and become fish food.

Juvenile bald eagles are a dark brown color, the white "bald" cap not appearing until the eagle turns four years old.

It's a great chance to spot bald eagles and watch them socialize and fish. They're magnificent birds and for me are always a treat to see!
