I've always enjoyed aerial photography because it makes me think in three dimensions.  And sometimes the patterns, colors and textures are so different from on high than from ground level.  

It seems that drones are offering a relatively easy way to get great aerial photographs.  Take a look at some of these great images from Telegraph Travel at this link:

I saw my first drone up close at a Thanksgiving party and now have one waiting to give for Christmas.  With extra parts (for crash repairs) and a memory card for the camera, it still came in at well under $100.  I'm amazed and excited to see it in action.  I think, as Rob says, they could be annoying but I suspect, after seeing one in action, that most people will keep it within their line of sight and where it can be retrieved, rather than lurking over their neighbors' backyards.
