I happened to travel to Europe in 2010 fairly soon after air traffic was started back up and there were a lot of hotel bargains to be had whole summer as many people canceled in advance. Great finale to your visit to Guatemala, and very glad that you got to see the volcano erupt. It certainly is a memorable experience. I've only ever seen Kilauea on the Big Island erupt, but those images are forever seared into the brain.
