I've never written a review and used the opening paragraph to criticise a few idiots I may have encountered. Of which there have been many. Nor have I needed to draw on the bad experience of another to make a critical point. I've never heard it called "Boring" and I've been here for 60 years. I suppose this will add to the list of "Warm Beer" questions I find boring whenever I visit my American Family. Nice photo's.

Likewise I was enthralled to be standing there. There was no line on the chilly day of my entrance. Didn't want to leave, but just stare. I was on a road trip from London up north, but I just had to make this detour and it was totally worth it.

What a terrific experience, Mac! I've been enthralled with Stonehenge since I was a boy. I first saw it about 30 years ago, and while it was smaller than I thought it would be, it truly is a marvel! I'm curious -- can anyone go? Do they limit attendance? The colors, the characters, the celebration of life -- it's just wonderful! Your photos made me feel part of that morning and make we want to be there to enjoy it sometime. Know my luck, though, it would be a rainy day.

Hi Dr. F. - No limit to the numbers who can attend and very few other restrictions (e.g. no bottles, drugs etc) for the 2 Solstices each year. This year was attended by a massive 37,000 people doubtless due to the excellent weather (the best in the past 8 years). Maria went 2 years ago whilst I was travelling and it poured with rain.... Not good. However, these are now the only times that you can touch the stones since they are normally roped off. The sights this year were just great. A real...

Its good to see 37,000 people being able to enjoy the day without the need for the "Boys in Blue" taking control. There are many Stone Circles across Europe. Do they have the same draw on the locals I wonder ? Great photos that I think have caught the "flavour" of the day. Thanks !

Mild temperatures attract thousands to Stonehenge for the winter solstice

The sign of times soon to come! This was my first summer solstice sunrise at Stonehenge in England and I love the picture because it heralds the warm sunny days that are yet to come (please!) after the dark days of winter. The solstice sun-rises are the only occasions these days when the public are allowed to be within touching distance of the old stones that comprise 'the Henge'.

There's definitely something special about seeing those ancient rocks so carefullly arranged. And to be there with a crowd of party-goers must have been a blast, Mac! Another great photo, thanks!

Hi Samantha, Someone actually went through big expense and effort to create that. Do you know what the columns were made of? It's always fun to come across a little gem like this on trips -- which I hope we can resume soon.

I first visited Stonehenge in 1973. You could wander around them and touch then!

My first visit was in 1985. By then you needed to stick on a trail around the stones and couldn't get close to them. I would have liked to have some freedom to move around, for different perspectives on all of the stones.
