While waiting in line for breakfast at a popular spot in Evanston (Frida's), I noticed an attractive building across the street built of bricks, with white trim and large glass windows. I thought I'd give it a closer look. It was the Woman’s Club of Evanston, located at 1702 Chicago Avenue.
The Woman's Club of Evanston was established in 1889 and is not far from Northwestern University. Its current facility, known as the clubhouse, was built in 1912 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The building was extensively renovated in 2020.
The Woman's Club was an off shoot of the Woman's Suffrage movement, and the building is a social gathering place for women in the community. It is a popular venue for weddings and other receptions. It can accommodate up to 250 guests.
It was spring when we visited and the magnolia blooms outside the building were lovely.
