Windmills Old and New, Saskatchewan

This photo was snapped on a road trip across the Canadian prairies.  The landscape tends to be somewhat monotonous, but this scene caught my attention.

In the foreground is an old windmill of the type that's been around for a century or more.  The windmill is used to pump water for livestock and is reliable -- if the wind is blowing.  The windmills in the background (left) are the trendy gigantic structures that now dot the landscape; they generate electricity when the wind conditions are right.

We'll see which technology will be around longer.
