Very successful and equally unpopular

baggage

US airlines collected a staggering US$6.4 billion in baggage and trip change fees in 2014.  Baggage fees increased 5.3% in 2014 to $3.5 billion, with Delta leading the pack at $875 million dollars.  Change fees increased 5.7% in 2014 to $2.9 billion.

Travelers uniformly hate these fees but it's unlikely they'll disappear or be reduced.  In fact, count on them to increase in the coming years.
