Up the River: Harry Potter barge trip on Thames

A new wrinkle's being added to the Harry Potter tourism circuit: a barge trip up the Thames that will allow a small group to visit a number of riverside locations associated with the popular films, combined with a behind-the-scenes tour of the studios where the movies were made.

But it's not for your average Harry Potter fan, or even for very many of them. Per-person fares for the 7-night cruise start at $5,350, and there are only eight places available on each of this summer's two saiilngs, on August 5 and 19. Of course, all meals and tours are included, but there's no guaranty of ghosts.

The cruise takes place on the barge Magna Carta (seen above). And for those who can't wait for August, or who don't care that much for Harry Potter, the barge also does a Downton Abbey cruise for similar prices. That one has six sailings this year, starting in April. More info HERE.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
