Universal building 'Kids Resort' in Texas

Universal theme parks is reaching out to a younger audience (and their parents) with a kid-focused resort to be built in Frisco, Texas; it's now got an official and somewhat obvious name: Universal Kids Resort.

The planned park, aimed at a 3-to-9-year-old audience will also have a 300-room adjacent in the Dallas suburb, and will feature "family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, unique merchandise, fun food and beverage venues and character meet-and-greets."

An opening date has not been announced and other details are also yet to come. The park will occupy about 100 acres, making it much smaller than some of Universal's other parks, such as the 541-acre Universal Orlando. The smaller footprint reflects that families with small children are believed to prefer less-intense experiences.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
