It's not just summer vacation and major holidays that drive airline scheduling decisions—and United's fall schedule is a case in point. It's adding a slew of nonstop flights to college football towns, and upgauging planes on other routes.
All told, the airline is adding 127 non-stop routes direct to college towns where the games are played from other areas where the fans are living. Among the 15 destinations for the fan flights are Columbus, Ohio; Fayetteville, Arkansas and South Bend, Indiana, with flights originating in a number of major markets.
In addition, some routes to major cities that have major college teams and regular service will be temporarily flown with larger planes to make more seats available. It's promoting the whole deal with an ad campaign featuring 2023 Heisman Award winner Caleb Williams, above.
