Uninhabited Scottish island seeks inhabitants

Yes, it's another one of those stories.

A 'dream job' with unusual responsibilities, one of which is living on an island with no one else, accessible only by boat and only in good weather, and with nearly no facilities. Dream or nightmare: your opinion counts.

This one is on the isle of Rona, halfway from Scotland to Skye. It's about 3.6 square miles, with four cottages. The owners are seeking two people, one full-time and one part-time (although there's not much to do in the off-hours).

The job(s) include taking care of the other two cottages which are rented out in summer and assisting with the island's 180 resident deer. That includes “estate and property maintenance and management, housekeeping, logistics, and assisting with deer management, stalking and venison processing.”

The owners say “We’re looking for an enthusiastic estate worker and partner who will really throw themselves into our island life and outdoor work. Someone just like the island itself – self-sufficient, resilient and perhaps a little rugged." Dream on...

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
