Toucan Alley

This bird park, or Parque Das Aves to give it its proper name, is located in the town of Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, near the famous Iguaçu Falls and right on Brazil’s border with Argentina.

Opened in 1994, the park is privately owned and well maintained. It's set in 16 hectares (40 acres) of sub-tropical rainforest and provides shelter for more than 800 birds of 160 species, as well as butterflies and reptiles from all over South America.

Although the birds have large enclosures they can fly freely around the park.

They include parrots, toucans, eagles and owls and the park is ideal for photography as there are no fences in the way. The toucans are particularly photogenic and this one even allowed me to stroke his bill.
