Titanic replica on track, but not to sail

Two replicas of the famous RMS Titanic, which sank on its maiden voyage in 1912 and thousands of times since 1997 on movie screens, are in the works, but the two projects are sharply different.

One, in China, is part of a vast amusement park and will never sail; its construction is well along and is expected to be ready for "passengers" in a couple of years; the construction is past the 50% mark, according to the builders, with six of nine decks built.

At its permanent dock on the Qi River in Sichuan Province, visitors will be able to stroll interiors, visit cabins, and even attend a replica banquet, copying the scenes from James Cameron's film.

The other replica, announced by a company called Blue Star Line, is the Titanic II, planned to be an exact replica of the original (minus design and construction flaws). Announced in 2013, and planned for sailings this year, it has yet to start construction, and its maiden voyage, originally planned for the original Southampton to New York route was switched to one from Jiangsu, China to Dubai, where the company is believed to have financial ties.

For the moment, no recent word from Blue Star.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
