Two days in a row of record-busting low temperatures—as low as -45ºF—in nothern Sweden have caused transportation delays and cancellations and other problems. While the temperatures were the record lows for those days, they're still a long way from Sweden's absolute record of -63F.
Bus service was cancelled in parts of the region; biofuel-powered buses were unable to cope with the cold because fuel became too sluggish to go through filters. SJ, the national train operator cancelled all service in the far north (north of Boden) based on a policy of not operating below -35C (-31F).
In Boras, in western Sweden, freezing water tanks made it difficult for firefighters to put out a residential fire. The Swedish weather agency expects the extreme temperatures to last another week. For more details, follow TheLocal.se HERE
