Starwood's Aloft brand previews voice-activated rooms

 

While keyless entry using your smartphone for access is getting a lot of buzz in the hotel world, Starwood's Aloft brand is taking hotel technology another step further, with a room that responds to your spoken wishes.

In what the chain calls "Project Jetson," the Aloft Boston Seaport and the Aloft Santa Clara in California have the new system in place, allowing users with in iPad (supplied) and a special app to use Apple's Siri to control temperature, lighting and more. It's also possible to text room service with an order.

Hotels believe that many travelers are so used to doing almost everything else with their phones that they'll welcome this as well. Brian McGuinnes, Aloft's director, says “Today’s early adopter, hyper-connected global traveler wants a level of personalization unlike ever before, and that means being able to control their hotel experience with the sound of their voice."
