Star Alliance creates themed Round-the-World fares

Round-the-World fares aren't really new...you could go all the way back to Magellan for that...but the big airline alliances have made it easier to book them. Star Alliance has taken it a step further and created themed trips for RTW travelers.

The themes, which travelers can modify, include World Food, World Wonders, Architecture Hotspots, Nature Trail, Aquatic Wonders, Natural Wonders, Great Hotels, Sports Hotspots, Wine Tasting, Romantic Journey and Luxury Lifestyle.

They're available in all classes, although with different times to complete the trip, and can be bought with maximum mileages of up to 26,000, 29,000, 34,000 or 39,000 miles. There's an online booking tool that can help plan, and then issue tickets.

Star Alliance members include United in the U.S., Lufthansa, SAS, Air Canada, Turkish, LOT, Air China, ANA and more. Information on the program can be found at Star Alliance's website HERE
